We are looking forward to another season of roof topping fights, food and fun at the 3rd running of the Rumble at the Rock.
This is a grass roots educational event. It happens because the teams of teachers, students and fans who attend, all contribute more to the event then they take away. This event belongs to those who attend and participate in it. The cost of participation is low, and the educational value and camaraderie is high…a winning combination for everyone who attends.
We are trying to grow this sport all across the country. We can only entertain 25 robots at a single day event. Therefore we invite everyone who attends to bring a colleague in an attempt to interest them in joining and sharing the educational fun and excitement of High School combat robots. In this way we might be able to get other arena’s built in other regions so that more people can participate. We will be happy to share the arena plans and share what we know about running an event with anyone willing to learn it, and do it! All you have to do is ask.
We are grateful to the support of Entergy Corporation and Pilgrim Nuclear for donating the resources we needed to build the Octagonal Arena. We are also grateful SolidWorks Corporation, who underwrote the operating costs of all of the Rumbles, and whose excellent design software enabled a group of high school students to design the arena.
From all of us who put this event on, including folks like David Somerville who manages the scoring, Joe Defalco and Mike Levi who run the lights and Kurt Geissler and the student’s from Hanover high who mill out the trophies and help clean up at the end of the event, as well as the dozens of other teachers and students who help organize and participate in the event …we say thanks.. and we look forward to meeting and greeting all the participants who attend this years (2) events.
Let’s keep the spirit of Rumble at the Rock rolling again this year. To do this we only have to remember to be honorable combatants and worthy opponents, and to keep the generous and sharing attitudes that have helped make this event worthy of your participation.
